The automated procedure for the determination of Formaldehyde in water and wastewater, is based  on the condensation reaction between formaldehyde and chromotropic acid  to produces a highly conjugated , spectrally active compound in the presence of sulfuric acid.

The color intensity is measured at 580 nm
